Sleddale Rose Beauty ("Beauty"), 1987 mare,
Lunesdale Lucky Jim x Sleddale Rosemary, black with white star

 [pedigree]

Beauty comes from the longstanding Sleddale stud in Cumbria where Fell ponies have been bred for generations. In 1991, her dam Sleddale Rosemary was judged to embody “the best qualities” and to be “true to type” by the judge who placed her first. Beauty was selected for export to the United States by Sarge Noble of the renowned Heltondale stud and then-Secretary of the Fell Pony Society Rachel Bell. They both felt Beauty was “a fine example of a Fell pony to show to another country.” Beauty was successfully shown before export. She has produced six foals in Colorado.

Turkey Trot Sand Lily (“Lily”), 2002 mare,
Midnight Valley Timothy x Sleddale Rose Beauty, black with white markings

 [pedigree]

Lily is my first-born Fell Pony. She has inherited her mother’s bone and substance and her father’s exquisite head and ears. The older she gets, the more proud I become of her. She has tremendous courage and is fascinated by any piece of machinery that she sees. Lily promises to be my first four-star working Fell pony. At the age of two, Lily attended the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo and at three packed pine cones for holiday wreaths off of Custer Mountain near home. She’s currently in training for riding and draft work and had a foal at age four.

Restar Mountain Shelley III (“Shelley”), 2004 mare,
Lunesdale Prince Albert x Townend Mountain Gypsy IV, black with white star

 [pedigree]

Shelley joined us in May of 2006. I owe a debt of gratitude to Joe Langcake and Kathleen Charters of the Restar Stud in Cumbria, England for letting this special pony relocate so far from home. It seems appropriate that a pony with ‘mountain’ in her name should come to reside in the Rockies of Colorado. The ‘mountain’ reference is to her mother, Townend Mountain Gypsy IV. She takes ‘Shelley’ from Kathleen’s daughter and Joe’s granddaughter. I feel a great responsibility to care well for this pony, as Kathleen regularly asks about her daughter’s namesake! Shelley is by Lunesdale Prince Albert, winner of the ridden class at the 2005 Fell Pony Society Stallion & Colt Show. One thing has become apparent about Shelley: she loves to move. More than once I have seen her making circuits of the paddock seemingly just for the fun of it, and she is a joy to watch. Shelley also loves attention and is the first to approach for a scratch when I enter her paddock. Despite being 17 years apart in age, Shelley is nearly the spitting image of Sleddale Rose Beauty; they are very similarly bred.

Bowthorne Matty FP4408, 2006 yearling brown/ bay filly,
Heltondale Ted FP487C x Wansfell Amanda FP2123

 [pedigree]

Matty has a very kind temperament and excellent conformation and Fell Pony action.  She was born in Scotland where Tom Peel and Peter Rome are re-energizing the Bowthorne Stud.  Started three decades ago by John Peel, Tom’s father and Peter’s grandfather, the first Bowthorne Fell Pony was registered in 1978.  Tom and Peter have recently acquired some outstanding stock and I look forward to watching the Bowthorne Stud’s evolution.

Matty was bred by Wendy Black of the Wansfell Stud in Cumbria.  In existence for four decades, Wansfell ponies live on the fells all year.  I’m thrilled to have another fell-bred pony and my first non-black Fell.
