Our recent heavy snow storm reinforced for me the mineral supplementation strategy that Dynamite recommends. There are four separate minerals in the Dynamite program that are to be offered free-choice. They are provided loose, and I put a scoop of each in its own bucket in the run-in sheds the ponies have. The ponies are able to choose which they want when they want it. The four minerals include natural trace mineral salt, a 2:1 calcium:phosphorus balancer, a 1:1 calcium:phosphorus balancer, and IzmineTM, a natural detoxifier. After seven years of Fell Ponies on Dynamite, I've learned that the ponies utilize 2:1 twice as much as 1:1, but they use both. They rarely use Izmine, and certain ponies utilize the natural trace mineral salt to the exclusion of the rest. I have noticed in the past that winter storms or changing weather can cause an uptick in the quantity of minerals consumed. This storm caused a different pattern of use, though. They ate more 1:1 than anything else. I am thankful for this free choice four-part mineral supplement strategy that allows the ponies to get what they need when they need it.
